Q: What are you board certified in? A: Plastic Surgery

Patients seeking cosmetic surgery from a plastic surgeon should realize that many other types of licensed physicians perform cosmetic procedures, even surgical procedures. In addition to reputation and recommendations from your trusted physicians, you may want to confirm that the doctor you plan to see is board certified in plastic surgery.

The American Board of Medical Specialties (http://www.abms.org/) is our nation's most respected and established organization that oversees board certification. It only approves 24 medical specialty boards. There are hundreds of additional organizations that issue "board certifications" without meeting to high standards of the ABMS. Patients can check their prospective doctor on the ABMS website.

“Any doctor who has graduated from medical school, fulfilled residency requirements, and has been licensed by the state in which he or she practices, can set up an office and practice medicine, even in a specialty for which he or she has not trained,” Dr. Weiss said. “An ABMS Member Board certified doctor ––has participated in a voluntary training and assessment process that demonstrates knowledge and skill in their chosen specialty/subspecialty beyond the basic licensing requirements.” To read the full article, check

Greenville, SC breast augmentation: Sutton Graham, MD

Saline implant breast augmentation remains our most popular surgical procedure (Botox & Dysport are our most popular non-surgical procedures. See other posts.)

Saline implants are well known for their long-term safety. Their use was never restricted by the FDA. Subpectoral saline implants have an excellent record; low rates of capsular contracture, good compatibility with mammograms and attractive transition between the upper chest and the upper breast.

We have an approach to selection of implant size that pleases and informs. We assess your desires, your current cup size, changes with prior / future pregnancies, changes from weight gain or loss, your breast gland thickness and firmness, and finally your skin looseness. We show you a range of sizers, and you try them on in a bra here with our experienced staff. You get to see approximately how your figure will look after surgery.

Appropriate pre-medicaton, surgical anesthesia (by our board-certified MD), and post-op medications provide comfort. Most women are decreasing the pain pills in a few days. Patients resume most normal activities quickly. We only ask that you hold off on your vigorous exercise routines for a few weeks. Of course, the results are obvious right away.

Nipples Inverted, Too Large, Areolas Too Big: We can help at Dr. Graham's Greenville practice

Many women are surprised to learn that there are easy answers for "small" problems with their nipples and areolas. Some women specifically make appointments for Dr. Graham to advise them on correction of problems they have with the appearance of their nipples. Others learn during a consultation for breast augmentation, breast lift, or breast reduction that they do not have to simply live with unusual appearing nipples. If the two are quite different, we can make them more alike.

Inverted nipples are able to be brought out. (Newly inverted nipples should first be evaluated by you primary care doctor, but long-term inversion is more common.) Elongated nipples can be made average size. These procedures are often combined with another breast surgery, but can be done by themselves. In fact, they are easily performed under local anesthesia in a brief procedure, with minimal recovery, and oral medication. The photo at the top is a before & after example of correction of nipple inversion. http://www.expertplasticsurgeon.com/html/other-breast.html#nipple-correction

The areola is the specially pigmented area around the nipple. If the areola is very wide, or elongated, some women request a smaller, more circular size. Sometimes the two are very asymmetric. By itself, the correction can be easily done under local anesthesia. If other breast concerns are present, areola correction can be combined with the breast procedure. This is most commonly paired with breast lift, done to correct breast sagging, and / or breast augmentation to correct loss of fullness. http://www.expertplasticsurgeon.com/html/breast-lift-reduction.html#breast-lift

In fairly unusual situations, a woman has abnormal breast development that effects the areola and breast tissue. In a condition called tubular breast deformity, the areola becomes dome-like, with breast tissue pushing out, and little natural breast shape. This can be corrected to establish more natural breast appearance. http://www.expertplasticsurgeon.com/photogallery/breast-reconstruction-mastectomy-4826/case-2-02209-16385/32132

Facelift: making the result natural and beautiful.

Beautiful, natural facial rejuvenation is possible through facelift surgery. It all in how the surgeon does his work.

Dr. Graham is widely known for achieving such high quality results for his female and male patients. Our photo gallery gives many examples and we'll show you more when you visit the office for a consultation. http://www.expertplasticsurgeon.com/photogallery/facelift-necklift-4805. The skin is not pulled overly tight. The mouth is not stretched. the cheeks aren't flattened. The expressions remain natural. Many times your friends will only notice that you look better somehow, less tired, or they might think you lost some weight. Of course, if the concerns include slack jowls, "turkey-neck," lax cheek and neck skin, etc. those will be improved markedly.

Most patients feel well in days and return to light activities in about a week. There is relatively little down-time. You can resume exercise and an active lifestyle in 3 weeks.

If you want more information, see our website. Our contact page will get you started, and give you information on how to schedule a consultation. http://www.expertplasticsurgeon.com/html/contact.html

Eyelid cosmetic blepharoplasty in Greenville, South Carolina

Eyelid tuck (blepharoplasty) is the most common facial cosmetic surgery both nationally and in our practice in Greenville, Upstate South Carolina.

People notice our eyes as the most expressive part of our face. The skin is thinner there and years of expressions & possibly sun damage cause wrinkles, deeper lines, thinning of the lower rim, protruding fat bags, draping loose skin. Gravity pushing the forehead and eyebrows down adds to the tired or sad impression that the eyes can give.

Surgery can be the answer for some of those problems. Blepharoplasty can removes skin folds, tighten skin, remove protruding fat pads, and add support to loose lids. Browlift can reduce forehead lines, raise overly low eyebrows, and decrease fullness of the upper, outer eye socket area. Laser peel can greatly improve skin texture, crinkling, wrinkling, crepiness. Some skin tightening is possible too. Lighter laser treatments are available that have shorter recovery times and don't need anesthesia.

Comprehensive treatment means more than surgery, and we have staff and experience with many other methods. Obagi Professional Skin Care is very helpful, particularly for pigmentation and surface texture concerns. Botox and Dysport are important to reduce excessive muscle motion in the squint & frown areas. Restylane and Juvaderm injectable fillers solve under-eye hollows and thin lower rims. We offer Latisse, the only FDA approved product to grow thicker, longer, darker lashes. We also offer lash and brow tinting or more permanent tattoo eyeliner or brow tint. Patients enjoy visits with out Skin Care Specialists and Nurse Practitioner. They enhance your results and enjoyment.
